Cake & “Macawffee”
Come join us for cake and coffee and a chance to see wild Scarlet Macaws up close! We’ll start at 7:30am with a chat about Wild Sun’s mission and efforts to reintroduce a species that was extirpated from the peninsula over 50 years ago. We’ll then walk up the hill for feeding time and watch as majestic macaws swoop in for their daily breakfast. Then we’ll take a quick stroll through the rest of our rescue center to see monkeys and other animals in our care.
Cake & “Macawffee” is 17,000 CRC/person (~$30). We normally serve pumpkin bread, banana bread or carrot cake alongside fresh brewed Costa Rican coffee or tea. Vegan options may be available with advanced notice.
Wild Sun is a community effort, financed by donations from wildlife lovers including visitors like yourself. The 17,000 CRC cake and coffee fee is donated entirely to rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Visits occur on Sunday mornings and last about 1 hour. Appointments must be confirmed at least a day in advance.

VIP luncheon
Our luncheon offers an opportunity to see all aspects of the Wild Sun rescue center while spending time with our staff in an intimate setting.
We begin at noon with a presentation about the wildlife in our back yard and the threats that they face. This is followed by lunch prepared by our in-house chef. We then walk up the hill to watch majestic Scarlet Macaws fly in for feeding time. Finally, we’ll take a look at our rescue and rehabilitation efforts for wildlife which may include howler and capuchin monkeys, anteaters, kinkajous, deer and varied other local species. As all animals are meant for release, the animals in our care are constantly changing.
Luncheon guests may choose chicken, fish, vegetarian or vegan cuisine. A beer or wine is included. Afterward, you are invited to use our infinity pool up until 3pm with bar service.
There is a cost of 30,000 CRC/person (~$54) for the meal and additional bar service is available at extra cost. Children under 2 are free. Luncheons are by appointment only and can be arranged any available date in the calendar below. All proceeds benefit the wildlife in our care.
